5 Tips To Reduce Moisture

Unfortunately, condensation in any home is very common. It comes from the moisture on the walls and windows. If you don’t treat this regularly, it can lead to mould which will eventually damage your holiday home. This can be easily resolved by following these five tips.

This week’s blog at Perfect Parks looks at ways you can reduce moisture in your holiday home. For further information, please call us on 01253 966110.

Increase Ventilation

Air movement in small spaces is extremely important since condensation can be very damaging, as it can cause mould. By increasing ventilation in your holiday home, it allows more moisture to escape. When possible, you should leave any windows open. Another way you can encourage airflow is by investing in vents or air circulators.

Purchase a Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers help to reduce the amount of moisture that is in the air and maintains the levels of humidity in your home. Luckily, dehumidifiers aren’t too expensive. You can purchase multiple and place them in different rooms.

Improve The Insulation

Most homes have some kind of insulation that helps to restrict the amount of moisture and mould growth. However, adding extra does no harm and can decrease the chances of you getting mould. Insulation packages can be purchased, or you can add it yourself.

Another way you can help improve the insulation is by switching from single glazed windows to double glazed. This helps reduce condensation by keeping the heat inside. The warmer it is inside the better.

Dry Washing Outside

Drying your clothes on an airer or radiator is an activity that is carried out on a daily basis. When washing your clothes, 1 pint of moisture is produced. When drying your clothes 9 pints of moisture is produced. You can minimise this from 10 pints to 1 by not drying your washing inside.

If you must dry your clothes inside, make sure to keep your home well ventilated by opening windows and turning on a dehumidifier.

Clean Your Holiday Home

By cleaning your holiday home regularly, you can keep on top of any damp. If you find any damp, get a cloth, and wipe it away as soon as possible. This will prevent the moisture from coming through to the surface more and causing long term damage.
